things to note
1. The portrait session takes about 45 minutes and the plate washing plus varnishing takes another 45 minutes, so budget some time for a coffee nearby for the second part if you wish.
2. You will also be provided with a digital scan of your portrait if you want it for sharing online. A higher resolution scan for printing etc will incur a small fee ($25).
3. Unlike digital or film-based portraiture, tintypes are a one-off result that cannot be altered, retouched or "photoshopped" and the portrait will only be repeated if the plate is technically flawed (which rarely happens!) or otherwise deemed a failure.
4. The studio will be darkened and illuminated by a photographic red safelight for a minute or two during plate preparation and processing.
5. The collodion tintype process involves the use of chemicals including ether, alcohol and dilute acetic acid (vinegar), so fumes may be detectable during plate preparation and development.
6. You will be asked to sign a photographic release form, which is standard practice, that outlines copyright and grants permission to use a copy of your image in promotional material for Tasmanian Tintype, exhibitions and competitions.
